Anthony E. Sis
Thankful.
Starting my junior year of college this semester is both life changing and surprisingly optimistic this time around. I remember the battles of last year and all the things I had to overcome due to one person - just one. Luckily, that phase of life is now over..
I have a lot on my plate this year. Now that my crazy hours are now over, I plan on spending a lot of time working with students to raise awareness about anything and everything on campus. I’m having a hard time with committing myself to one thing, because intersections play a large role in the work I do. This has ultimately led me to have an interest in a career within the field of higher education because a) I have a great amount of experience working in higher ed. 2) I love helping students pursue their passions and interests through the work that I do as a student activist. 3) pursuing a degree in higher ed will allow me to balance my career with my activism and still engage with youth in striving for their goals and dreams. I have literally taken advantage of all the resources on this campus at this point to get me to this realization and I couldn’t be any happier.
So to end this post, I’d like to dedicate this is to all those I’m thankful for who have helped me get to where I am today. From Mario I met in D.C. to John, the guy who could disassemble and assemble a microwave in three minutes- tops. From my immediate family to my family away from home (or I should say families). From the faculty, staff, and high school teachers who never doubted in my potential and still support me in everything I do. This post is for you and the work you do.
